Google Android

Now, I consider myself a cell phone enthusiast. I'm very enthusiastic about technology in the palm of my hand.  My first smartphone was a Nokia 7210 that I purchased in 2002.  For the time is was great.  Since then I've upgraded several more times: to a Nokia 6620, then a Treo 650, then an ATT 8125, followed by a Nokia 6682, a Samsung Blackjack, then a short time with a Treo 750, and now I'm using the ATT 8525 (made by HTC) running Windows Mobile 6 - and it's an awesome device.  It can do anything. It's a super-human phone.  It totally blows the iPhone out of the water with features and functionality… totally.

But now here we are in 2008.  On the horizon is Google's Android Linux based operating system for mobile phones.  The more I read, and see, the more excited I get about this.  Rather than building a "gPhone" (if you will, and I know you will) they're developing a platform for software developers to write apps that can run on Android.  With 30+ hardware/software and service providers on board this should be a great year for mobile phones.

Hopefully HTC will make it easy to install Android on my current phone… if not, we'll see what Android based phone will be the successor to my wonderful 8525.

Of course, I've been known to change my mind on occasion regarding what phone I want.  :)
