Memorial Day Weekend
Damnit Wow Damnit ! This has been the busiest weekend for me in a while. Here’s the run-down:
Friday night: The weekend started on Friday night (as it should) with an invite to a graduation/birthday party at Khalid’s house. When we arrived Vikas and Karl were manning the kabobs on the grill. After a short time, it was Vikas and I that were in charge of the food. The real fun began when the hired ‘entertainment’ arrived. Khalid hired a male stripper for his girlfriend, Gretta. Now, I didn’t really pay too much attention to his ‘act’, as I tried to keep myself busy outside by randomly re-arranging the food on the grill. Good for me.
Saturday: Enter the Matt Brown weekend. He got into town about 3pm. Shortly after picking him up he got a call from Ms. Led. They were on tour from Seattle, and they’re quite the fave of Matt’s. They had just arrived as well, and unloaded their gear at Plush. We met up with them, had some food at Beyond Bread, and brought them all back to our house. Since we agreed to house them for the night, they unloaded their bags and the drinking began. A few hours later, after drinks, naps and showers we headed down to Plush. First up, was The Impossible Ones from Phoenix. They were pretty much taking Toy Dolls’ songs and changing the lyrics. They sounded good, but I wasn’t terribly impressed. Next up was Ms. Led. They were really good - I mean REALLY good. Good dynamics, catchy choruses, etc… at least that’s what I remember - I was under the influence by this time. Matt Brown got to sing along for a song - I later found out that he sprained / strained / twisted/ broke his foot when getting off the stage. Youch! The Mission Creeps headlined the show, but I was really too busy telling everyone that I had ‘nipples on my nuts’, and that the beer was ‘kicking in’ to really pay a lot of attention. I did notice they played the theme to The Sopranos. I started drinking waters, and got myself in shape for the drive home. I was responsible for getting (a very drunk) Chris home, and Matt back to my place. After waiting for quite a while for everyone to finish their beers, I got the ‘go ahead’ from Matt to leave him behind - he wasn’t done partying. As to what happened to him - you’ll need to read his blog. I dropped Chris off, and got back to the house at the same time Ms. Led did. We all got to sleep a little after 2am.
Sunday: Tiff and I were up at about 8. We wanted to get some food at the grocery store for the band before they headed out to Vegas for their next show. Right as we were leaving the doorbell rang. It was Matt! He said, “Your patio furniture is uncomfortable”. He had been sleeping out there for the past couple of hours. He also said he lost his phone in a taxi, and he only had one shoe. We put him on the couch, and went shopping. When we came back, Tiff made breakfast as the band started waking up. We invited Vic and Annie over and we had a great breakfast. After Ms. Led left at about 10, we sent Matt to bed. Later in the day, Matt woke up, and we decided to have a BBQ. Since Matt was barely able to move, we brought the party to him. We invited a bunch of folks over and made some burgers. After mostly everyone was gone I got a call on my phone from Matt Brown. It was a cab driver calling my from Matt’s phone. He drove by and gave it back to Matt. A happy ending to another day.
Monday: Memorial Day. Overall, Monday was a pretty mellow day. Matt limped away with Kane and Lolo to see 28 Weeks Later while Tiff and I rested up for another work week. Actually this week is only 4 days long - which is awesome. And then this weekend, Tiff and I are going to PHX to see Colin Hay, spending the night, and coming back Sunday. Whew! Summer is here!
